Garth McVicar: Founder
Founder of the Sensible Sentencing, Garth McVicar, believes the escalation in violent crime is a direct reflection of deteriorating social standards and moral values. Once known for being the safest country in the western world, NZ has progressively become a very criminal and violent Nation.
With four daughters and a farm in Hawke’s Bay he believes he has a pretty big stake in the future direction of NZ. Unable to stand back and watch, Garth decided to take this enormous challenge on himself and has dedicated his life to the cause ever since.
In 2001 Sensible Sentencing was formed to bring balance to the law and order debate and to give the many innocent victims of homicide guidance, hope and a voice.
Garth has inspired thousands of New Zealanders to support his vision of a safe society resulting in SST becoming the largest privately funded Victim’s Advocacy and Justice Reform organisation in New Zealand.
