A horrific predator

Mohyadin Farah came to New Zealand in 2000 as a refugee from Somalia. He should never have been allowed into our country!

Farah’s criminal behaviour reflects his utter disrespect for women. One Judge defined Farah as someone who thinks women OWED him sexual favours.

Before arriving in New Zealand Farah had been found guilty of indecent assault; resulting in a prison sentence in a Kenyan jail. Farah has continued to commit serious sexual crimes since his arrival into New Zealand.

In 2006 a sentence of Preventive Detention was sought due to Farah’s increased level of sexual violence. The High Court Judge declined the application instead handing down a four year prison term.

In 2008 an order was served under the Immigration Act to have Farah deported back to Somalia. Unfortunately at that time there was no Somalian Government therefore no passports and travel documents could be issued.

Upon release Farah has continued to repeat his deviant sexual behaviour. In 2011 Farah indecently assaulted another victim. He grabbed the woman’s breasts while they traveled on a bus. He then threatened the victim telling her he was going to rape her.

In 2013 Farah raped another innocent victim after she declined and struggled against his sexual demands. Farah was found unfit to stand trial for the rape and indecent assault charges. Instead he was placed in a secure mental health facility.

In 2018 Farah was released only to again re-offend. Farah indecently assaulted two innocent victims on the same day. One of his victims was a vulnerable elderly lady who relied on a walking frame for stability. Farah snatched the walking frame off the victim when she tired to escape his sexual assault.

Farah plead guilty to assault and indecent assault. He was sentenced yesterday by Judge Jan Kelly at the Porirua District Court. Farah received a sentence of twelve months intensive supervision. Judge Kelly had said the intensive supervision was to try and get him the specialised treatment he needs.

When Farah came to New Zealand he already had convictions relating to sexual crimes. Farah has caused serious trauma to multiple innocent victims. He has shown he can not be rehabilitated and he will re-offend.

Why is our Justice System willing to take such a dangerous risk by allowing this sexual predator to stay in our country?

It is an absolute disgrace!

Community safety must be the paramount consideration and unfortunately we have to say this is a case where the Offenders well-being has been put above the safety of the public.
