Current Situation

At present any person convicted of an offence has the legal right to appeal the decision and is eligible to apply for legal aid to do so, even if there are no reasonable grounds for appealing.

Changes SST would like to see:

  1. Courts discouraging frivolous appeals by penalising those found to be making such appeals
  2. Fresh/new sentencing for contemptuous breaches during the mandatory supervision period.
